School Governors play a vital role in helping to improve educational standards and ensuring that all pupils are educated to their full potential. The purpose of the Governing body is to conduct the school with a view to promoting the highest possible standards of educational achievement. The work and commitment of the Governing body aims to make a positive impact on lives of every child attending the school.
Governors have three key roles:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure money is well spent.
Our governing body is an active and supportive group, whose members are fully involved in all aspects of school life in order to provide the best possible education for our children. It is made up of appointed, elected and co-opted members, including parent and staff governors. They have overall responsibility for the effective governance of the school and are accountable to the parents, the Local Authority and the Secretary of State. The Headteacher is responsible for the day to day management of the school. The Governing body holds the Headteacher to account for the performance of the school.
A file containing agendas and minutes of our meetings is held at the school and may be viewed in term time by arrangement. We also publish a “School Profile & Governors' Report” online every year which contains a range of information about the work of the school during the previous academic year. It is available in hard copy for parents who do not have Internet access.
Our Governing body is a group of very committed people from a variety of different backgrounds who approach their voluntary roles with a strong interest in education, a passion for Rowdeford School and an often needed sense of humour! Meetings are formal but fun. Governors are unpaid volunteers, our only reward is to be part of an outstanding and inspirational school, which is continuously striving for further development and improvement. It is a privilege to be a Governor of Rowdeford School and anybody wishing to serve on the Governing body should feel free to contact me.
